Short Curriculum Vitae

Degree in Geological Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II in 1994, PhD in Earth Sciences since 1999, University Researcher in the scientific disciplinary sector D03B since May 1999 at the Department of Earth Sciences of Sapienza University of Rome, Associate Professor since August 2008 and Full Professor since January 2019 at the same department. Since 2004, he has been a member of the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering of the CNR. From 2010 to 2016 member of the PhD Commission of the Department of Earth Sciences. From 2012 to 2014 member of the Evaluation Unit of the Faculty of Sciences. From 2014 to 2016 coordinator of the Master's Degree in Exploration Geology. From 2014 to 2017 secretary of the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology. From 2016 to 2019 director of the University Museum of Earth Sciences. From 2019 responsible for the third mission for the Department of Earth Sciences. From 2020 member of the Outreach Commission of the Faculty of Sciences. Since 2020 coordinator of the international commission for the nomenclature and classification of igneous rocks established by the IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences).

  • 1999 PhD in Earth Sciences in Petrology of Magmatic Associations (University of Naples and Catania consortium).

Research Themes

  1. Cenozoic igneous activity in the circum-Mediterranean area, with particular interest in Spain, France, Libya, Syria, Turkey and Iran;
  2. Study of natural ultra-basic and ultra-calcium systems;
  3. Study of natural ultrafemic systems and metasomatization processes of the upper mantle;
  4. Origin of carbonatites;
  5. Characterization of the alkaline, alkaline-carbonatitic and tholeiitic Cretaceous-Eocene manifestations of southern Brazil.

Awards

  • SIMP Award (Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology) 2001 "Angelo Bianchi" for the best scientific production.
  • 2001 SIMP Prize for the best PhD thesis on a mineral-petrographic subject.
